a dedication

I'm going on vacation tomorrow, and this mommy had asked me to come to this little one's dedication. Since I'm not going to be able to go, she still wanted to do something at their church as a family to commemorate the occasion. You may recognize him as the little boy on my website with his mouth open in the snow. I have really come to like this family a lot; they seem to get along really well, and they have awesome accents, since mom and dad are from S. Africa :) I just go to hear them talk...I mean...to take their pictures.

It is nothing short of a miracle that everyone is looking at the camera at the same time!

When we were gathered around talking after we were done, the princess fell asleep. I didn't mind getting all of my stuff back out to get this sweet shot. I love sleeping babies. I like them awake too, but there's just something calming about them sleeping.

why I love my job

This little guy has had a rough go of it. I cannot imagine what his mommy and daddy have been through, let alone what he's been through with lots of stays in the hospital in his short little life. But what a blessing he is! He is the happiest, most loving little guy, and I fell in love with him immediately. His mommy wanted to get some pictures of him to show everyone that he is doing so well, and is just a playful little toddler now.

And his sister, to whom he is SO sweet, was also adorable. I cannot believe this first picture, and I know I will have some doubters, but I did not photoshop that butterfly in there...nor did I know it was there until I was stuck in traffic that wasn't moving at all on my way home. I was looking through the pictures on my camera and saw this. I couldn't believe it. I hadn't seen it, but apparently she saw it!

a change of pace

I had a few different opportunities this weekend outside of my comfort zone. Neither of them involved children, skittles, or barking like a dog. My first reaction to this session was to just say sorry, I don't do couples. But after giving it a lot of thought, I thought to myself, how do I know I don't like it if I've never really done it? So I did it. And I'm glad I did; I found it relaxed and kind of fun, and almost not so stressful. Perhaps a future venture? Maybe. This couple has been married for 5 years or so. They both work downtown, and so they wanted an urban kind of feel to these. I think it's great that they wanted to get pictures taken of the two of them. I'd like to do that too--in fact we've got something penciled in for October, but more on that later.

sisters

I never had a sister, and I wouldn't have traded my brothers in for girls, but seeing these two made me want a sister. In a few years they may take each other's clothes or steal each other's shoes; one of them may even give the other a little push down the stairs--but for now...at least for this moment, they are crazy about each other. I hope this helps mom remember how they were together.

squeaky shoes

IMG_4541 web

At his 9 month pictures, he was about to start walking. Here he is at 12 months walking around like a champ. I did a double-take as he took his first steps...his shoes were squeaking with each step! I gotta get me some of those. Not for myself, of course :)

I'm pretty sure he just saw an angel! Look at him looking up at the sky. I love this.

Dad wanted a picture of him in this Colts hat, but it didn't have a chin strap, so I did what I could before he took it off..again and again and again ;)

The Kids

The drive there is rarely perfect. I'm kind of bad with directions.

The house is not usually perfect. (Don't come over to my house unannounced.)

The lighting is never perfect. Skylights just aren't popular.

My camera isn't perfect. I often am wanting a new lens.

But the kids...the kids are always perfect!

Little man and I had on matching pants. I thought he looked a little better in his though. I love how simple this is. He's just standing there, not even realizing how absolutely adorable he is with his little bare feet.

This was the original purpose of front porches.

And every once in a while, Mom and Dad are hot! :)
